Medical Aid I would avoid

Discovery Health Medical Scheme has denied my 82 year old Dad a plan upgrade as its midyear and they only allow Oct to Dec. I was sincerely hoping they would have made an exception as he has an excellent motivational letter from his oncologist directing the urgent need for upgrade to classic comprehensive to allow the use of biologics to fight his metastatic melanoma. While not curative they have a chance at prolonging his life by months or even years which would help their situation somewhat as my brother is in a wheelchair with motor neuron disease and lives with my parents. My Dad still walks the family whippet twice daily to and from the beach so is having a good quality of life. With my mom having dementia its a situation of my Dad being the last man standing so to speak and with Discovery denying this option I feel the family is now even more vulnerable as I am in Cape Town and they are in Langebaan. Discovery , keep your happy family advertising pictures if you are nothing more than a ruthless insurance giant which I believe you are .
