Medical Aid frozen due to non-payment

I changed jobs at the end of November 2014. I app**** to transfer my Discovery account to the new company. I was notified that it was successful. However, without warning and without my knowledge my Vitality account was closed, which I only found out when I couldn't enter the gym. Now, with no warning at all my Medical aid benefits were frozen due to the fact that I am behind on my payments. This is actualy a mistake on Discovery's side, because they did not notify my new company that my wife is a dependant on my medical aid. My company will pay the outstanding amount, but only at the end of the month, meaning I will sit without medical aid until then. What if I or my wife need emergency care in that time? Why did Discovery not notify me in advance that my payments are behind, then we could have discovered this mistake a long time ago. Instead, they simply froze my account without warning, and without ever previously having problems with payment from my side. How will I now provide for myself or my wife in the event of medical emergencies during this time? Is this how loyal members are treated? Why am I being punished for your mistake?

Hello steynlouisa3aan,

Thank you for your comment.

As we bill your monthly premium from your employer they have contacted the Scheme Administrator to address any outstanding premiums. We lifted the suspension on your membership and confirmed that it is active. I confirmed telephonically that you re-activated Vitality and how the billing will work. When we transferred your membership to your current employer we did notify them of the full premium that was due for your membership as we received previous premiums. Your employer is billed in arrears and due to this we could only notify you once the payments were allocated for the previous month. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused to you and your family.

Thank you for allowing me to assist with your query.

Kind regards
Jashvir
