Maternity benefits and finding "technicalities" why they don't pay out
What a ridiculous way of doing business. I am a member and saw that you get maternity benefits if you are pregnant. Specifically visits to the gynecologist and other benefits. As any couple trying to get pregnant know the first 12 weeks is a tricky period where anything can happen. When my wife and I used a home pregnancy test and it was positive we were very exited but also cautious and waiting to see the heartbeat on our first visit to the gynecologist before getting too exited. During this time is when I found out that Discovery offers maturity benefits. I called Discovery after the first visit to inform them that we are indeed pregnant and all looks good, as well as to find out where do I send the invoice and proof that we paid for the first visit. I was congratulated and told to send the invoice to ********** witch I did. Only to get a mail back stating that it wont get paid because I don't have a medical savings account. To witch I rep**** and copied in the screenshot of the maternity benefits. (https://www.discovery.co.za/medical-aid/maternity-benefit) I then received a call from a lady that 100% agrees that it is a valid claim but that the invoice was on the 29th of January and my wife only clicked on the "activate" pregnancy after that date. (one we knew we where REALLY pregnant) and that is why they are not going to pay the claim.
The main thing here is that they acknowledged that it is a valid claim but using the technicality that the activation was only done after we really knew we were pregnant.???? And does the date that we active it online and the fact that we are pregnant for over 8 weeks change anything?
Just shows you that even Discovery does not care about you as a person and we are all just numbers and dates to them. Really disappointed with them and hoping someone reads this and activate ALL your benefits even before you think you are going to need it so that they don't catch you with a "TECHNICALITY"
