Massive Discovery Medical disappointment

I have never struggled with Discovery medical aid. Not once. I have been a loyal client of Discovery for over 6 years now since moving on to my own plan. Yes you pay higher premiums but the service has always been fantastic and value for money has always been present. But this has me second guessing the motives of Discovery and whether or not they actually care for and want the best for their clients.

My fiancé suffered from intestinal bleeding and severe abdominal pains for days. Luckily she was hospitalised so that the route cause could be determined quickly and effectively. After a bunch of scans and tests it was thanks to a scope that they could find the cause of the bleeding and follow suit with the treatment. Turns out she was suffering from a hernia that had pressed her stomach against her esophagus. To any normal person (i hope) this would sound like a quite serious condition that could not have been detected otherwise. And being that she was IN-HOSPITAL you would expect something like this to be covered.

But no. Not Discovery Medical Aid. The average person makes a plan to afford medical aid to make sure that we are covered medically and can that have peace of mind. And just because we can afford medical aid does not mean we are rich and living luxurious and have money to throw around. So I would like to know WHY I am expected to throw even MORE money around (that I firstly don't have, and secondly will put severe financial strain on my cashflow) if we are already paying ridiculously high premiums to be covered for these things?

What is then even the point of medical aid? I could easily just put that money away for the stormy day when it will be needed.

It's lekker if people like Adrian Gore can stuff R36 million into his bonus pocket but Discovery clients have for fork out more and more and more money in times where we don't have any more money to spare.
