Low blow now that I have resigned from Discovery

n February 2017, my son fell sick and we took him to a pediatrician to be examined. The Pediatrician requested that he get some blood tests done at Lancett of which was then supposed to be paid by the Medical aid. The payment was made and processed as per my discussion with the medical aid. As of the 1st of April, I had resigned from Discovery and therefore my medical was automatically cancelled. And had nothing owing to Lancett laboratories. When I resigned, my medical aid premiums were up to date and my Medical savings account had been at a balance of R10 000 +-.

3 Months later, I received an sms from Lancett advising that the payment for my son's blood tests was reversed. I then called Discovery to find out the reason why it was reversed and I was advised that Due to an error on their side, the payment was taken from the scheme and not from my medical savings account and due to the fact that I am no longer in Discovery, I am liable to pay.

Due to me no longer working, I no longer have medical aid and I doubt that any other medical scheme would pay for this fee as this is a legacy issue. This happened before I left Discovery and therefore Discovery should pay for it. At the time of transactions, my premiums were paid up and therefore I should not be liable for the cost. I contacted their contact centre as per the attached letter and have been advised that I should pay even though it is not my fault and even though they have acknowledged an error due to their system. I feel their call centre was not even willing to help or listen to me but was just trying to get their point across and hence them not understanding my viewpoint on this matter. I requested to be put through to a complaints personnel who also failed to see reason and hence I am writing this.

I have contacted Discovery directly and upon failure of resolution of my query requested to be put through to the complaints department as per ref: ********** 963 and requested them to put everything that was discussed in writing. The advised that they were not willing to assist as I was no longer part of the Discovery medical aid scheme and thus this was my issue to deal. I then advised that they should pay me back all my premiums over the 3 months I was with Discovery this year before I left and that ill pay all the services I used over those 3 months manually. They advised that they would put that request through and call me back in a few working days.

All I wanted was for Discovery to pay Lancett as they should have initially when the claim was put through. I require no financial compensation however, if they are still not willing to pay, may they please pay back all my premiums from January 2017 and I will personally pay all those that I am liable to pay myself.

If this is how Discovery treats their ex employees, id hate to see how they treat customers in the general public. What Discovery did was low despicable and i hope they are called to book for this.
