Lost of respect

Last week Saturday I woke up with a hectic allergy, I had to rush to the nearest medical doctor whom I paid cash over the amount of R500. He then referred me to hospital and said that if the allergy does not subside I have to go to emergency room for an IV. Sunday morning I woke up, having the same attach but 10 times worst. My husband had to rush me to hospital where a medical doctor has put me on an IV. Before the Dr. would even look at me I had to pay the amount of R1500.. thinking that I would be able to claim back from Discovery (SINCE I'm IN A HOSPITAL). I have submit my documents, BUT with absolute SHOCK - Discovery refuse to refund. Not ONCE did any of the discovery staff looked into our files - which CLEARLY SHOWS I'm NOT abusing the system. Since 2012 I have claimed once from my plan, this would have been the second time, still they just looked at the system and said \sorry

Hello barbaralh,

Thank you for your comment.
I investigated your query and confirmed that on your chosen plan type, there is no day to day benefit. This means that any claims done outside an approved hospital admission will be for the members own pocket.
As a healthcare funder, we have a responsibility to our members to provide access to top quality healthcare, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the scheme. We make decisions regarding the funding of medical procedures and services according to rigorous criteria to ensure that we meet both these objectives.

We fund for casualty claims from members available day to day benefits and should a member be admitted into hospital then the casualty claims will be funded from the Hospital Benefit.

I am truly sorry I could not provide you with a different outcome to your query however it is in line with the Scheme rules and your chosen plan type.

Kind regards
Jashvir
