Lost for words

My wife went for surgery on July 10th at a hospital that's not in our network. That means we were liable for a co-payment of R8400. We paid. She was kept over night and discharged the next day. Unfortunately, the pain medication given to her caused her to have a severe allergic reaction. We had to rush to the emergency room at the same hospital on July 12th. It was a matter of minutes and life and death!

She was admitted again. The hospital app**** another co-payment of R8400. I contacted Discovery, hoping that they would at least cover 50% of that. The ER doctor on duty that day supp**** supporting documents, stating that it was a life threating emergency and that the hospital was also the closest to us.

Discovery denies payment stating that "We have been at this hospital before"!!! What kind of response is that???? I was told that "5 minutes later could have had sever consequences" and Discovery is hung up on previous visits. We have always covered the co-payment ourselves and for once we ask Discovery for help and get that response!
