KeyCare plan that does care

After being a member for years, I am appauled by the service that Discovery offers to my mother - on the discovery keycare plus scheme. Despite coming from another medical aid, she was placed on a 3 month waiting period and denied access to her chronic medication. Whilst I accepted this, I notice that their booklet says that she would have been on the waiting period if she had discontinued cover in the last 3 months. My mom now needs medical care and I have been trying for 30min to call discovery. Their whatsapp bot takes you in circles and you cant call them as it does not connect. Considering moving my family as well now.

It was a horrible day with Discovery yesterday with more than 2 hours being on the phone. MOst frustrating was that each agent gave me different reasons for the waitng period - one even claimed that all people who come from other medical aids have a 3 month waiting period. IN the process I found out that she was given the waiting period as they (i) (incorrectly) recorded her old medical aid ending in November when it was to end at the end of December with Discovery cover starting on 1 January. The old medical did make an error and continued the cover till end of January. (ii) she answered yes to taking medication. She is a chronic patient. Does this mean that all people on Chronic should not move to Discovery & (iii) She answered yes the question on whether she planned to have a procedure or dental work in the next 12 months. She wanted dentures this year and said yes.

If this is the grounds for the waiting period, one must question whether it is wise to move to Discovery. I am now forced to explore other medical aids.

Fortunately, the silver lining has been Thabiso who listened to me and asked me to send him the termination cert. (Others never asked for this). He explained that the removal has to happen through a manager and that he would need to explain this to his manager. He also advised that my mom had to be treated for the PMB which she was. He handed me over to Lwande (His supervisor) who was already briefed and attempted to help, although by this time, it was after 4pm and staff had left. She called me when she got home to apologise for not getting back to me and committed to giving me feedback today.

This has not been resolved yet with my mom still in hospital. I hope to get resolution soon.
