Keycare dentists: the stuff nightmares are made of

I made an appointment on Thursday to have my filling replaced at Bright smile. On this occasion, I decided to conduct an online investigation, as my last experience with a keycare dentist left me running out the consultation room, after being poked at (with filthy equipment) by a man so old he couldn't stop shaking. He told me that he'd need to take an x-ray, and proceeded to roll me into a dingy "built in cupboard". I was so put off, that I decided it would be best to leave with my teeth intact. This was 4 years ago, needless to say, I have been reluctant to revisit a network dentist ever since. I decided to absorb my medical expenses from my private account, to resolve that matter at a dentist I felt more comfortable with.

It took me a few u turns, phone calls and much frustration, to realize that Bright smile was in fact branded "dental care". I tried to remain positive as the Doctor began drilling, but she quickly located the inside of my lip with drill in hand. She drenched what looked like two "dental tampons" in my blood, and carried on battering away. After the work, she nervously told me that she "didn't think the filling would stay in", and that if it came out, I should come back. I guess I shouldn't have been suprized, when the following evening, it seemed the Doctor did get something right - true to form, the filling popped out.

Based on my experience, it seems painfully obvious that Discovery does not take care in evaluating the doctors on the Keycare network. One of the reputable dentists I visited to fix the first problem, was a Doctor who was once on the Keycare Network. Upon telling him of my experience, he said that Discovery invests very little in the Doctors on that network. He, along with some of his colleagues, encountered problems with payment, and some other practiotioners have complained about the types of medicines Doctors on the network need to prescribe to patients to meet compliance policies.

A more affordable medical aid scheme shouldn't come with as many benefits as a full package, that I can understand, but zero access to qualified and competent practitioners seems ******** and dangerous. If the Doctors on the network aren't as qualified as they should be, perhaps Discovery should get rid of the Keycare package and call it the way it is: "If you're looking for Doctor's who actually know what they're doing, be prepared to pay a bit more" #nocare #newyear #newinsurance
