Key Care proof is endless
My parents are both unemployed and want to move onto discovery keycare as that is income based and what they can afford until they can afford the discovery pensioner's medical aid.<br> <br> However no one rep**** to my email when I initially app****. I eventually spoke to a consultant who I had to contact a few times who then said everything is ready to go and we nearly cancelled our current medical aid but luckily I asked for the documentation instead of taking his word. <br> <br> They then said no there is additional info they needed which when we handed in we noted that we need a reply ASAP so that we can contact our current medical aid. They never called us back. After ample phone calls to them they are imposing a 25% penalty unless we can prove 35 years of income. NO ONE KEEPS RECORDS OF 35 YEARS INCOME AND EVEN IF THEY DO THEY WILL NOT FIND IT IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS. And I told them we need to notify the current medical aid by the 7th of December if we are resigning.<br> <br> Discovery promises great service but that is only to big corporates and the rich! really disappointed in their service

The Medical Schemes Act states that medical schemes may apply a late-joiner penalty to an applicant or to the dependant of an applicant who fits the definition of a late-joiner. Late-joiner penalty fees have been imposed from 1 April 2001. Prior to that, the government gave members time to join medical schemes without the scheme being allowed to impose the late-joiner penalty. This was called the amnesty period, which ended on 31 March 2001.
A late-joiner is regarded as an applicant, or the adult dependant of an applicant, who at the date of application: ?Is 35 years or older
o Was not a member or a dependant of a registered medical scheme on or before the 1st of April 2001
o Has allowed more than three consecutive months' break in membership since the 1st of April 2001
o Late-joiner penalties apply to all persons who have not previously belonged to a South African medical scheme; membership with foreign schemes is not recognised.
