ITC listed for something I am not aware of

In June of last year I left my company of employment and was informed by HR that my medical aid will be cancelled at the end of July 2014. In September of 2014 I called the company to query if there was any amounts due to me or by me to Discovery as I had left with an amount of approximately R1600 on my savings. HR came back a week later stating nothing was due and my account was closed. Two weeks ago (17th March) I app**** for a position on reference checks the agency informed I was listed on Transunion ITC for an amount of R749 by Discovery. I contacted Discovery and was advised to call the debt collection company as a letter of demand was sent to me sometime in Oct/Nov which I have not received to date. I spent money calling the debt agency only to be advised that they would send me a breakdown the next day. Three days later I called this agency for the breakdown and the lady(helpful) advised that admin was closed but she would send me an email advising the amount owing. Although no explanation was provided as to what I was paying, just a letter advising the amount owing. I called Discovery again but still no explanation. I cannot pay for something I am not aware off. Help!!!

Hello Charlenen1,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) is a fixed amount that Discovery Health gives you at the beginning of the year for day-to-day medical expenses. You pay this amount back to us in 12 equal monthly instalments but, if necessary, you are free to use the whole amount at the beginning of the year to pay for valid medical expenses. The 12 instalments form part of your monthly contribution.

If you leave the Discovery Health Medical Scheme part-way through the year, we calculate how much of the MSA you have used and how much you have contributed to it. If you have used more from the account than what you have paid into the account, then you will need to pay the difference to us.

I confirmed that should we receive further information we can assist you. I have sent an email to you to this effect and to explain how the amount owing to the Scheme was created.

Kind regards
Jashvir
