Incorrect Billing, Contradictory Information & 1.5 Hours Wasted - Discovery Needs to Do Better
My call with Discovery today has been incredibly frustrating and unacceptable.
Yesterday, I was informed that my premium had not been received and that I allegedly owed approximately R6,500 (initiallty told that I owe over R8000). This was surprising, as I knew payment had been made. Only after I insisted on checking today did Discovery then “locate” the payment and confirm that they actually owe me R1,588.
I then requested that this amount be allocated towards a prior balance Discovery claimed I owed from last year (following their bulk communications about “overpayments” during that period). Even here, there is no clarity - I have been told different amounts (R2,400 vs R2,700), which raises serious concerns about the accuracy of their records.
What made matters worse was the time and effort required to resolve what should have been a simple query. I spent over 1 hour 30 minutes on the phone, being transferred between multiple departments, repeatedly verifying myself, and encountering systems that clearly do not speak to each other.
Each consultant seemed to have different information, resulting in constant repetition and no progress.
My interaction with Michaela in Finance was particularly disappointing - she appeared distracted, uncertain, and repeatedly restated information I had already provided, without adding any value. Her tone and lack of clarity made the interaction even more frustrating, to the point where I had to request escalation.
I was then transferred and left holding indefinitely, only to call back again and start the process from scratch. The next consultant in the Settlement Solutions team was equally unclear and even referenced incorrect information relating to a previous membership.
It was only when I eventually spoke to Amore that some progress was made, and the process was finally initiated - although I remain concerned about how long it will take to conclude.
Discovery’s systems are clearly fragmented, and the lack of alignment between departments is unacceptable. Clients should not have to spend over 90 minutes resolving an issue that should take no more than 10 minutes.
This experience reflects poor service delivery, inconsistent information, and a lack of accountability.
Discovery urgently needs to:
-Fix internal system integration issues -Ensure consultants are properly trained and informed -Improve customer service standards -and most importantly allocate the credit towards the shortfall is as requested
This level of inefficiency is deeply disappointing.
