Improper implementation of the medical aid scheme act
First complaint: I app**** to add my father as a dependent on my existing medical police, Discovery went and app**** the late joiner penalty of 75%. I read and understand the medical scheme act, it say medical scheme may apply the late joiner penalty but Discovery now use the act to discriminate people who had no financial affordability to join medical aid schemes. They should have done historic financial affordability check before they make the call to add the late joiner penalty. Discovery can not keep on applying a blanket approach about the later joiner penalty. The medical scheme act is clear because it left the honors to the medical schemes to practically apply the law. Currently the act is being abused by Discovery by failing to apply common logic.
Second complaint: I am leaving with my orphan niece which I took the parental responsibility to provide all the needs of the child according to our African customs. I failed to add her on my medical plan because Discovery want proof that I am a legal guardian to the child, which I don't have. I supp**** all proof that the child's parents are deceased and I am the provider of all the needs of my niece as she stays with me under one roof. Discovery wants me to open a stand alone medical aid policy for her as principal member so that they can continue maximize their provide at the expense of an orphan.
Discovery discriminates civilians under the wrong implementation of the medical scheme act.
