I joined Discovery medical aid on 1 September 2023. 21 May 2024 I had taken ill and was rushed to Trauma unit at Westville hospital at 4pm. Westville hospital delayed filling out forms and then Discovery delayed to give authorization for my stay. After being seen by Dr I was advised that I need to be hospitalized further because I had to see a neurologist as I had 3 seizures in a matter of 1 week. Dr advised I needed an Mri to be done and when we called Discovery for authorization we were told that I need to wait 3-5 working days for my case to be reviewed. Despite my critical medical condition I was forced to leave the hospital as I cannot manage these medical cost. It's obvious that Discovery health does not care about its members furthermore the Doctors advised Discovery health medical aid that this was not a pre- existing condition.
My husband made numerous calls , too many to mention trying to follow up with the "Standards" department but was told they cannot communicate with the public.
Ironically, I received an Sms to contact this department as I couldn't take their call being unwell and again my husband tried over 10 times to call them and still no answer.
