How Discovery medical aid is no longer about making people healthier. It's about making themselves wealthier
*** *** *** All these calls were made with regards to my injury, and I was advised that even though i am unable to exercise, if the review team acknowledged my injury, I would still get my Vitality points to maintain my streak.
I called in today on *** and *** and was advised that they would only ensure that if there was a financial impact, that would be resolved and not my Vitality points.
Firstly - I have never missed my Active rewards goal since the beginning of the year because my streak is important to me. My wife and I have had a healthy competition stemming from last year to ensure that we maintain our goals as a means for us to stay healthy and as a way to track our increasing fitness. I was elated that I had passed my previous streak (mind you it was broken due to me missing a week in Jan) and it represented my increasing health and fitness.
Secondly - me achieving my goals was never for any benefit such as Discovery miles. I didn't even need my active reward goals for my Vitality status as I can comfortably say that we are always on Diamond status.
For you guys to advise that the review team was for financial implication and not for me to receive my vitality points is really a low blow. You guys are basically saying that money means more to me and you than your core purpose of making people healthier and enhancing and protecting their lives.
Being a previous Discovery employee really disgusts me knowing that this is your standpoint. It confirms what everyone has been saying about Discovery. You have really changed and have now focused on more money for the company and less on the wellbeing of your members. You now treat us as cash ***s and nothing else.
I have medical aid with Discovery and even though I was turned away from casualty when I got injured Wednesday night, I took comfort in knowing that at least I would still be acknowledged for my streak and hence still took the added effort of going to my GP to get checked out and get a letter to prove my injury (at my own cost). Had I known that you guys are all about money, I would have saved the petrol and consultation fee and stayed home (possibly forced myself to gym) to try and attain my status in some way.
Finally - i was advised on calls from Friday that if approved by the review team, I would maintain my streak accordingly. Hence why I was comfortable to then relax and not force myself to gym.
Knowing that discovery always kept its promises (as I came from the Discovery Vitality call Centre), I thought that at least on those grounds alone, they would honor but the feedback I'm receiving is that even though the contact Centre agent reassured me that I will get my points, I am now being told that it doesn't matter and that it's all about the money. If it was about the money, believe me I would have used my Vitality status for trips, flight discounts before the benefits were removed. IF it was about the money, I would have cancelled my Vitality a long time ago as it is no longer affordable. If it was about the money, I would have rather gone with a cheaper service provider such as Kingprice, Momentum, Outsurance to name a few. It wasn't and now i see how foolish i was to believe in the foolish dream of making people better and enhancing and protecting their lives (as drilled into me from induction and over the 10 years I was at Discovery)
Discovery at this point in time is a shadow of its former self. From an employment of choice perspective to the quality that you had within your contact Centre back in the day when I was there.
Thank you, Discovery, for showing your true colours. :)
