Hospital Pre-Authorisation

My mom joined as a dependant on my health policy and after completing forms and going for tests she was approved as a member with a few exclusions for a year based on her health record. We have paid her portion of the premium in full however, even though we had the exclusions, as she did not have medical insurance for an extended period of time. She started complaining about abdominal pains and went to see a Doctor in January who booked her for a nessasary opertation, and comp**** with all Discovery's requests. The pre-Auth was still not done on the day of the procedure, and when we phoned they said they are doing further checks to see whether there was any non-disclosure from our side. The issue is a new one, never bothered her and does not form part or is resultant from any excluded items. No feedback or communication from Discovery leaves us frustrated and not confident at all regarding their ability to manage a health policy for the benefit of their members. They don't have any issues taking our money for premiums but when it comes to doing what we pay them for there seems to be a string of hidden agendas. Not happy!

It has been 24 hours since Discovery's initial (Automated?) response. The lack of communication or updates is what creates the lack of confidence in Discovery as a service provider. The managers and servicing team promises to get back to you soon, yet the complete silence is infuriating to say the least. A simple call to say "we are still working on the problem" or "it has been resolved, sorry for the inconvenience" could make a world of difference, but perhaps they are not too concerned about the people that complain as long as they get their premiums collected. Bad show Discovery...
