Horrible Service Continues

After about 3 months of struggling to get my membership activated (because they kept not notifying me when they needed documents - plus they had terrible customer care and they were rude to me over the phone) they finally sent me the offer that I can accept to activate my membership. I chose the KeyCare Plus option because I'm a student without an income because I don't have a job (the fee is then R330 or something..). But when I got the offer they made the fee R700 or something because according to them any incoming money into my bank account is seen as an income - YET I EXPLAINED TO THEM WITH AN AFFIDAVIT THAT IT IS MONEY FROM MY PARENTS IN ORDER TO PAY MY TUITION AND MONEY FOR FOOD. They also app**** a 3 month waiting period because it has been more than 90 days since I came off my previous medical aid - BUT WHOSE FAULT IS THAT?!? I'VE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH THEM FOR 3 MOTNHS!! They have treated me very unfairly, they are very rude to me over the phone, and no matter how many times this happens their promises remain empty. I wouldn't recommend Discovery Health to anyone - You are better off with a company that actually treats their customers with respect.

Hello Fishsticks,

Thank you for your comment.

The KeyCare range of plans aim to provide access to private healthcare cover to those individuals who could not previously afford the cost of a medical aid and as a result, never had access to private healthcare.

We confirmed that once an application form is received and processed we may require additional information depending on what plan type the member chooses. The plan type you chose requires additional documentation that was not sent to the Scheme. When we received this and reviewed your income band you did not meet the criteria to be placed on the lowest income band.

Underwriting is a risk management tool that assists medical schemes in maintaining their long-term sustainability through various ways. Schemes are not allowed to decline membership to anyone however are allowed to protect their risk pools using the different types of underwriting such as waiting periods. We confirmed the waiting period has been app**** correctly.

We understand that you may not be satisfied with the outcome of your query however it is in line with the Scheme Rules.

Kind regards
Jashvir
