High-handed behaviour shown by Discovery Health
Due to circumstances beyond my control the debit order for my Discovery subscription was declined. Discovery never had the courtesy to inform me of this problem so that I could correct it. Instead, they summarily cancelled my medical cover without informing me, and only sent me an sms to this effect over a week later. So, for over a week, I was without any medical cover WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. This high-handed treatment by Discovery occurred after I'd been a regular contributor for over a year, and had never even made a claim. Before you join a medical scheme, make sure they show more courtesy and empathy to their clients. I, for one, will be looking elsewhere for medical cover.

25 Mar 2021, 08:46Yes, Discovery has been 'in touch'. The fact remains that they sent me an SMS informing me that my subscription had been cancelled. Instead of this high-handed behaviour, why not send an sms informing that my debit order has been declined, and that if I do not rectify the problem immediately, THEN they will cancel my subscription. Isn't this a far more compassionate way to treat your clients when things happen that are clearly beyond their control?
But, no, compassion is a word Discovery clearly does not understand. I wonder how they treat their clients when they have the misfortune to claim against their medical aid?
