Greedy Medical Aid Provider

Discovery Health have provided their annual update in terms of medical aid plan changes and adjustments in terms of premiums. In true Discovery style they have been very selective in terms of how they shared the changes for next year!

In simply terms your pay more and get less, my plan premiums will increase with 3% (very reasonable) but there is a reduction in my medical savings account (MSA) of 5%. This is where they catch you, most people will think their MSA has reduced by 5% but in actual fact they have changed that instead of 25% of your premium going towards MSA its now 20%. That so called 5% difference will result in my MSA reducing by 16% but that is not clearly shared with you, so make sure you check and understand on your plan exactly what has been changed!
