First Premium, BEWARE!

i would just like to warn people, as this happened to me and my husband as well as one of my sons....so it is might not only be coincidence? We joined Discovery medical aid in March. The debit order was supposed to go through on 1st of that month, but didnt. suspecting the consequences, I phoned to ask why, and after a long explination which made little sense, confirmed that the service is suspended untill it is paid. But that a double premium will be deducted beginning April, in which case the suspension will be lifted . Alternatively I could pay it into Discovery's bank account, which I did immediately, and send proop of payment. I did an eft immediately and sent proof.

I will admit, it was done immediately, and service was great . BUT, a word of warning, my son joined two months later. Same thing...premium did not go off the first month. Out of ignorance he said nothinf and was kinda relieved. He die budget for it though, but said nothing and thought it will go off the following month. Needless to say, double premiums were decucted ! But my concern is, he wasnt covered during the first month of his 'memebership', even though he ended up paying for it! Anyway! Membership is suspended if payment die not go through. Luckily he did not need medical care of any sorts. But imagine you do? I feel that this is a way of receiving payment knowing that there is no cover. My advice is to make sure your first payment goes through as agreed in the first place, just incase something goes wrong and you need coverage. Lets hope there are no other 'overseen' administrative oopsies!

Dear Ms Fourie

Thank you for raising your concerns.

We did try contacting you, however, we were unable to reach you. We can confirm that we did send you an email responding to your query.

With all new memberships, the first debit order will always be requested if the membership was activated before the bill cut-off date. The bill cut-off date is the date that we send the request for the next month’s premium to the bank. If the membership is activated after the bill cut-off date, the request is not sent to the bank that month and will be included in the next month’s request, unless a manual payment is made.

If you require any further assistance, you are free to contact us directly.

Regards
Annelize
