Financial ******

After 4 months and 13 days of changing my medical plan from a Comprehensive Core plan to a Classic Core plan I still have not received my medial saving payment which I was promised to be paid out if you move from a plan with a medical savings account to one without. Initially I was told that it would take up to three months at the most. After three months I phoned again, and I was told, not to worry and that I will receive the money at the end of August and that it is actually 4 months waiting period, and not three as I was told initially. I phoned again today, 28th of August, and now the story is that I will only receive the Money on the 19th of September, which is a Saturday, so actually only the 21st. I find it very devious of Discovery to just keep my money for getting interest on it, and not paying it back to me. Although, they were extremely quick in making my savings less (from initially R15K to now less than halve) to accommodate for me not being on the plan any more. I will have to look for a a more truthful medical aid company!

Hello mariebuhrmann,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) is a fixed amount that Discovery Health gives you at the beginning of the year for day-to-day medical expenses. You pay this amount back to us in 12 equal monthly instalments but, if necessary, you are free to use the whole amount at the beginning of the year to pay for valid medical expenses. The 12 instalments form part of your monthly contribution.

If you change your plan to a plan with no MSA part-way through the year, we calculate how much of the MSA you have used and how much you have contributed to it. The MSA is the pro-rated based on the amount of months that you contributed towards the MSA.

Once your plan is changed, we will refund the remaining MSA balance to you in the fifth month due to the fact that claims are valid for four months from the date of service.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the information previously provided to you and the inconvenience this has caused. We will address this internally and put the necessary processes in place to avoid it reoccurring in future.

We trust your future dealing with Discovery Health will be more favourable.

Regards
Annelize
