False advertising
<p>Discovery advertised their Classic Smart plan to include a dentist checkup with only R100 co-payment.</p> <p>I joined the plan, but am unable to find any dentists nearby (Cape Town) that charge the terribly low discovery rate of R213.80. The minimum I could find thusfar is R600, meaning my "co-payment" will end up being: R600 + R100 - R213.80 (I could just as well go cash).</p> <p> </p> <p>I contacted discovery who said they do not have any deals with dentists and I will need to find one that charges the Discovery rates myself. The representative added that he is a Discovery client and himself and had to drive really far to find a dentist with rates close to what Discovery provides (after he contacted many dentists to find one).</p> <p> </p> <p>#****</p>

For completeness: they phoned me to tell me they made no deals with Dentists to back their claim of one dental checkup per year with only R100 co-payment (similar to the GP visits that they cover).
They added that they will update their brochure + marketing material once they receive enough queries regarding their false claim.
Take note of this before considering the smart classic plan. All other claims are legit, the network of GPs + optometrists is tiny. This info you only get after you joined. I phoned them beforehand for a list of GPs in my area, but they simply would not give me one.

I placed a claim for the "1 free dental visit per year" they claimed which includes the consultation fee + xrays + cleaning. Discovery paid out R139.00 saying that all the other codes (which they claimed they would pay) exceeds the yearly limit. So from my R2700 dental visit they paid R139.00 0.o
