Failure to settle casualty claims by Discovery
So, my wife who is pregant presents with fluctuating fever for more than 24 hours and due to it being a Saturday evening go to the hospital that is a network hospital. She gets seen to by a doctor that is not contracted with discovery and is treated with IV fluids and other medication whilst blood tests are conducted to determine infection markers etc.
All this si good an well and we spend about 6 hours at the hospital lying in casualty. We had to settle the doctors bills directly due to not being contracted to Dsicovery and a week later the hospital bills claimed were rejected due to there not being sufficient medical savings. This is where toils and tribulations with Discovery begin.
1. It is a horror show to get hold of anyone via the WhatsApp and chat services Discovery has moved towards. 2. I fail to grasp how a person can lay in hospital for 6 hours being given drip after drip and for the hospital and doctors to take a "wait and see" approach if someone needs to be admitted. 3. The hospital claim was not settled by Discovery and I have since found out that casualty treatment on a Saturday (when no other doctors are available) is funded from the medical savings making the patient liable. 4. The question becomes Why from the MSA? We approached the nearest hospital that is on our network for medical treatement and are now left out in the cold ? 5. We are NOT on a hospital plan, but on a full medical aid plan. This entire treatment by Discovery is as if we are on a hospital plan. 6. The doctors bias for admitting or not admitting my wife after 6 hours and the casualty being "attached" to a hospital as if its a seperate entity is a loophope of technicalities that Discovery uses for patients to pay for treatment out of pocket.
I would like a knowledgeable Discovery employee to call me and explain to e why this is the case. if not, its either time to just downgrde to a hospital plan or change providers entirely.
I have been advised to get the case file and submit to Discovery for a review. The question is why ? Cant discovery do this with their immense corporate power ?
