Failed to supply authorisation for Hospital
I am so disgusted with Discovery. To get Hospital Authorization my GP needed to fill in a form. Which he did. Turn around time 48-72 hours. Days have passed and no Authorization number yet. The operation is tomorrow morning. Authorization number must be in by 2:45 pm at the Doctor's office. Why do they take so long? I'm the one calling and spending my money just to obtain a number. Each Month I pay the Medical Aid. I am so disappointed in this Medical Aid. Our health should come first. This is what they agreed to. But seems to me that this is all a big lie. Your health is not important at all. Your money is all that is important.

09 Feb 2016, 09:42Hello SuzanneSwart,
Thank you for your comment.
I have reviewed your request and can confirm that a consultant had called you yesterday to provide you with an authorization number.
When a request for authorization is received from a member who has newly joined the Scheme there is a validation process that takes place. This includes obtaining information from the treating provider. We can only proceed with the validation process once we receive the relevant information.
We rely on the relevant providers to supply us with this information before making a funding decision. By undertaking this process we are in no way preventing you from seeking the required medical treatment.
We apologize for any frustration that this process has caused you, however I trust this provides some clarity as to why there was a delay in obtaining the authorization number.
Regards
Meryl
