Extremely Disappointed – Discovery Health Refusing to Pay In-Hospital Specialist & Scan Bills

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with Discovery Health Medical Aid.

In March 2025, I was admitted to hospital and received specialist treatment and necessary scans while IN HOSPITAL. To my shock and disbelief, Discovery Health is now refusing to cover both the specialist's in-hospital treatment and the radiology scans conducted during my stay.

As a result, I have now received bills of:

R10,000 from the specialist

R3,000 from the radiology department

This is absolutely unacceptable.

What is the purpose of paying R4,500 per month for medical aid cover if I am expected to personally cover substantial in-hospital medical costs? These services were not elective, nor were they outpatient procedures — they were rendered while I was hospitalised, and should, by all reasonable standards, be covered by my plan.

I expect a proper explanation and urgent resolution to this matter. This kind of service undermines the very trust and security one expects from a medical aid provider. Should there be any resolution Discovery will turn around and tell me that the time frame has closed for the claims to be resubmitted. This is honestly sickening to say the least
