Emergency treatment and loads of outstanding bills
I am on the Essential Smart option. I had a emergency in March 2023 whereby i ended up going to my network hospital for emergency treatment. The dr on call put me on a drip and said that they need to do scans and cause its after hours they cant do it now. he wanted to admit me and me trying to save my medical aid money said i will return in the morning for the scan, seeing that i felt better after the drip. In the morning i was back to feeling terrible and went to the same emergency department for help, where they again put me on a drip. The dr at my network hospital was not sure after tests how to treat my complex condition. He called a urologist at a different hospital who is known to me. This Urologist requested me to attend to a different hospital right away as he knew i needed urgent help and treatment. I was admitted as an emergency to this hospital which i also clearly indicated to the reception staff at the hospital. after three days in hospital i was finally well enough to go home. Now the problem is the Dr at my Network hospital is not on the network list for Dr's thus leaving me with a bill which Discovery is not paying. So one has to go to a network hospital but cant be seen by a Dr as the Dr is not on the network - what is the use should I lay in the emergency room or the hospital hoping i feel better without a Dr's treatment? I have the Dr's now asking for money I have the hospital which i was admitted to asking for R11 000.00 co payment as they are not my network hospital I have the radiologist asking for payment I have the pathologist asking for payment
i went to the network hospital as my medical aid asks but have more accounts outstanding than payments was made.
