EMERGENCY ROOM ACCOUNT NOT PAID

My daughter was rushed to the Emergency Room at Vergelegen Mediclinic on 31 July 2015 after collapsing at her desk at work. She was admitted and treated, x-rays, sonars, drips, you name it. After approximately 3 hours she was released with a prescription and the hope to feel better shortly afterward. After reacting negatively to the medication, and feeling worse, she was eventually admitted into hospital on Monday, 3 August, where she underwent another series of tests, x-rays etc.

Much to my surprise, I was presented with a hospital bill on the 3rd of August to the amount of R1872.00 for her visit on the 31st. (No details on the invoice - just one line HOSPITAL FIXED RATE!!) I am utterly disgusted with the fact that Discovery has not covered this under the hospital plan, but wanted to recover the amount from my Savings, which was depleted a few months ago. Needless to say, there are more outstanding bills for the x-rays, sonars, etc etc which are now for my account. This is not acceptable and causes unnecessary financial strain on unsuspecting customers who now have to fit the bill, which is actually a hospital incident.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!

Mrs JJ Rademeyer

Hello JoeyRademeyer,

Thank you for your comment.

We tried to contact you to discuss your concerns however you were unable to take our calls. An email was sent to you should you wish to discuss them at a more convenient time.

As per the Scheme and your plan benefit Rules, any claims resulting from a casualty visit will be funded from your available MSA or your own pocket. If you are admitted into hospital after visiting casualty and your admission has been approved, the casualty account will be paid from the Hospital Benefit. I understand your daughter was not admitted into hospital immediately following her casualty treatment.

I'm sorry that I could not provide you with a more favourable outcome. You are more than welcome to contact me should you require any further assistance in this matter.

Regards
Annelize
