Easy to hand one over to ITC

I was with Discovery till the end of June 2015 and joined Discovery Retail (still Discovery) July. Had no idea that there would be an issue till recently I was told via sms that I had been handed over to SSDA and black listed via ITC. In trying to contact Discovery and asking why and how come, eventually found out it was due my savings within my Discovery Plan had been exceeded and not carried over. Eventually I have found out today this is due to that they close the one account (Discovery) and opened the Discovery Retail plan. Thanks for letting me know this as I thought I was a customer...must have been mistaken! So I must pay the shortfall R1318.22 with SSDA costs...And this includes sending an email and endless sms's saying I am ignoring Discovery constantly! REALLY! I am the one emailing and calling! Who do I send that bill to. I am shocked the a big medical aid company, who is still receiving money from me at present can not even contact me to inform me of any short fall or payments due and just hand you over. I am trying to cancel my medical aid now at my present employee as I don't think this company operates professionally and now I'm the one sitting on ITC!

Hello Craig Pritchard,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) is a fixed amount that Discovery Health gives you at the beginning of the year for day-to-day medical expenses. You pay this amount back to us in 12 equal monthly instalments but, if necessary, you are free to use the whole amount at the beginning of the year to pay for valid medical expenses. The 12 instalments form part of your monthly contribution. If you leave Discovery Health Medical Scheme part-way through the year, we calculate how much of the MSA you have used and how much you have contributed to it. If you have used more from the account than what you have paid into the account, then you will need to pay the difference to us.

When a member joins as part of a large employer group, they are normally free of underwriting if they join within 3 months from becoming an employee. For this reason the application process was not affected by the clawback that was created on your old membership. We've confirmed that you have been contacted and your concerns discussed.

Regards
Annelize
