I have recently motivated for the hire of a birth pool. I've been told by Discovery that they will not cover the cost of the birth pool because the facility at which I'm birthing my baby at already has a birth bath. My motivation was to have this policy overridden because I have previously used the birthing bath and it was so uncomfortable that it prevented me from having a water birth. It was so uncomfortable that I climbed out of the bath in order to birth my child. I find Discovery's policy around this completely discriminatory against women who seek natural pain relief yet they will happily fork out cover should I request an epidural. I would be happy to use the birthing bath at the facility if it actually worked. There is a huge difference between a birthing pool and a birthing bath.
