Discovery’s System Error Cost Me R4,000 – Still Waiting for My Money Back

I am beyond frustrated with Discovery Medical Scheme. Discovery approved my PMB for mental health benefits under 2027 instead of 2026. How does a medical aid system even allow a benefit to be approved for the wrong year more than 12 months in advance? Because of Discovery’s error, more than R4,000 was deducted from my Medical Savings Account. Not my mistake. Theirs. I called immediately and was passed around: Nosipho Team Leader Kwenzo Sean Govendor I was promised the issue would be resolved within 3 days. I was told it would be done by the end of the week. I made it very clear I urgently needed the funds for dental and physiotherapy appointments. One week later: The PMB date was eventually corrected. My money has NOT been returned. No proactive update. No accountability. No urgency. I am now unable to access necessary healthcare because Discovery has not reversed funds that should never have been deducted in the first place. This is not the first time. Last year I had another unresolved issue where I was moved from person to person and ultimately left frustrated without proper resolution. At this point, it feels systemic: • Administrative incompetence • Broken promises • No ownership • Members carry the financial consequences Discovery positions itself as a premium medical scheme. My experience has been the opposite. If this is how members are treated when Discovery makes the mistake, it is deeply concerning.
