#DiscoveryPneumoniaAdmission"New Rules"Be Warned

My 80 year old mother was diagnose with Pneumonia, being a Discovery Member for as long as I can remember I thought "No Problem" She was diagnosed by her house doctor which referred her to hospital to be admitted and to a specialist in the same hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital with my very fragile Mom in a wheelchair as she is too weak to walk , eat, you name it. I was informed by admissions that it is going to be a problem. Discovery does not admit Pneumonia patients if they were not referred by a Specialist (By the way the House Doctor phoned the specialist before we left his rooms to book a bed for my Mom) that gives me an impression of a very urgent case. I was told by Discovery I could take her to casualties and they could stabilize her and keep her for 2 hours either to let go or to be admitted all depending on the severity. So in short.... 1. Go see the specialist (We Discovery will pay for this on top of the Doctor you just saw. 2. Go to casualties and then maybe take her home / or they might admit her.(Discovery will pay for this also) Bare in mind we are talking about a 80 year old person. 3. Take her home - She might make it. I was told by the Call Centre " Sterkte Mevrou" Really...... In any case the specialist made a plan, squeezed her in his already full schedule and admitted her. (Thank our Lucky Stars " In between all of this - the admission was put on review and then declined as the call centre phoned the wrong doctor to confirm the earlier appointment with the GP. :-(. We arrived at the Hospital 11.51am and she was admitted between 15:30 - 16:00pm. Could that be the difference between life and death? I think Discovery is putting too much emphasize on their Loyalty Reward Programs instead of the real reason "MEDICAL AID FOR THE SICK PEOPLE"
