Discovery you NOT about prevention and peoples health you all about taking their MONEY !!!!!!

I will start of by giving you a little bit of background so you have some understanding, while we were travelling on holiday in December my boyfriend suffered a heart attack on the the 29th December 2017 the closest hospital was Netcare Greenacres they landed up transferring him to St Georges Life hospital on the 30th for an angiogram where they put in a balloon to open up the closed artery. Derek was then given a load of meds which I just got out of his savings for the first month as there was not much we could do about chronic on the 31st December which was fine I then got the chronic meds loaded for the following months going forward. We had a few complications with his heart in Jan but then things settled, we then found a cardiologist in JHB – Dr Goldberg at the Olivedale Clinic which he went to go and see in March. Dr Goldberg then changed one of the meds and increased his Cholesterol tablet from 10mg to 40mg per day as it was still high and not coming down ( a tablet discovery refuse to pay for which blows my mind) but anyway I just carried on paying for it every month.

He has not been feeling himself and has been experiencing the odd pains in his arms, he went to see Dr Goldberg and he was concerned about the artery that they opened with the balloon and he wanted to check that it was still open properly and he also wanted to check another artery that the report from December said ran to a dead end, so he requested for him to please go to the Nuclear department at the Mulbarton hospital and that he would need to be there for about 5 hours, they did all sorts of tests on him. We didn’t think to even ask is this is covered by medical aid as I wold of honestly thought it was as he has a heart problem and Discovery is all about prevention and we are trying to see if the artery is still fully open before he has an actual heart attack, as with the tests they will pick up if he needs to go in for stents to be inserted.

I received the daily claims email and see they deducted R 14 499.53 from his medical savings ? I called the call centre and they just said yes this is right, so I said to the agent so you telling me anyone with a heart problem who needs to check that they are okay and not about to have a heart attack and if they have no savings and don’t have he money to pay for this they just have to wait until they have the heart attack then ? her response was “ Yes” I honestly had no words !!!!!!!!!

I know about PMB but thought it was only if your savings were finished, but after some investigation I have found out differently, but why could the discovery agents tell me about it ? this is not the first time ive had an issue with PMB discovery DON’T like the members to be aware of it ! Why do discovery not automatically allocate PMB for a chronic condition why is it always a fight ??????
