DISCOVERY WONT PAY CANCER RELATED SURGERY -

Discovery is a DISGRACE!!!!!!! I have had breast cancer and a mastectomy where they removed 19 lymph nodes. I now suffer from Stage 3 Lymphodema.

In April I went for a Lymphoscintigraphy scan which showed THERE IS NO LYMPH MOVEMENT IN MY RIGHT ARM. My arm was so thick I could not fit into my clothes. My doctor performed a debulking operation which Discovery covered, and removed 3.6 kgs of hardened lymph. If it remained it can be life threatening as it can lead to cellulitis and other sever conditions. That is beside the pain of this heavy weight in your arm, which aches and the poor quality of life as i have constant shoulder and back and neck ache.

So you would assume after covering the first operation, Discovery would cover the second part of the procedure. It will cost me R480 000. I dont have it.

So now even although I wear hot uncomfortable full arm and hand compression garments 24/7, the lymph is already building up again. The lymphodema is not cured. There are no lymph nodes. After the debulking it will just happen again.

Other medical aids cover it, BUT NOT DISCOVERY!!! I was told that a very High up Discovery manager had a friend with the same condition, and her operation was covered! They are ****** and *******. Sad that we depend on them! Due to the POPIA act i cannot divulge information of who or where I got it, but its a fact!

The 2nd operation following this is a Vascularized lymph node transfer which transfers from other body parts and places 2 lymph nodes in the arm to assist and prevent the lymphodema. DISCOVERY HAVE DECLINED to pay for this.

Also when I lodged a dispute I get told I will get a response in 1-2 days. After 7 days, I got no response. Their service and humanity is atrocious. Just want our money.
