Discovery will only pay when you are at death's door

<p>I have a condition called Pectus Excavatum which is becoming worse. 6 months ago I could run 5km in 30 mins and now I can't even run 1km before my heart rate maxes out and I have to stop in order to breathe. I have spent R3000 on Doctors' bills so far this month and Discovery hasn't paid a cent. My GP has referred me to a cardiologist but Discovery also won't pay, and I can't afford to pay any more out of my pocket right now, so I am cancelling the appointment. I guess I will just go exercise until I have a heart attack and hopefully I survive it and then finally Discovery will pay. My problem is that they position themselves as having wellbeing and preventative measures at the core of their philospohy, but here is yet another example of a case where there is a problem and I want to take steps so that we can fix it before I get hospitalised for it, but Discovery would rather wait until it gets that bad. The ironic thing is they will end up paying R300 000 in hospital bills when an operation needs to be done, rather than R3500 consultation fee now for a cardiologist. Totally out of line with their supposed philosophy</p>
