DISCOVERY VACCINATION SITE DISASTER AREA

I Called Discovery Helpline this morning as a Vaccination Site had been set up at 1 Discovery Place for Covid. The young lady advised go to Sandton as they are accepting walkins so all is well. Arrived at the Barriers to see all these poor elderly people in the baking Sun speaking to these uncaring "Discovery Help" staff advising them to go away as they had 100 walkins in the Discovery Building and they could not accept more than that as the building was not big enough - This is the huge Discovery Building in Sandton Thomas the Discovery gentleman I spoke with was arrogant and quite rude. When I advised him I had called their Helpline before I arrived, he asked if I had proof I called them, to which I responded no but the young lady at Discovery was very helpful and said please go along you will be assisted. Thomas told me I was making it up! I then decided to leave as Thomas would not help anyone in the queue, there was a very elderly lady who pleaded with Thomas and advised she had come a long way and needed her vaccine and was happy to wait until 1800 this evening if she had to and without compassion or caring he told her she must leave and did not wish to converse any further. The scene at Discovery was kaos, there was no parking and cars were lining up on the yellow lines outside the Building. Cars were driving by with occupants asking will they vaccinate us if we park and wait to which they were advised to go away and come back another day. I wish the media had been there as it was a very traumatic scene seeing these poor elderly people so bewildered and confused and receiving no support or assistance whatsover. Covid has been a traumatic time and although Discovery may have been trying to assist their lack of organisation let them down badly today and their uncompassionate staff at the barriers were a nightmare. There is always a way of relaying bad news, but the Discovery staff had no training on how to deliver the message.
