Discovery, their rewards vs your health.
Hi,
Thank you, then in your esteemed medical wisdom, a person who has COVID can go ahead and do exercise and increase their heart rate to required amount for at least 30 minutes 2 to 3 times a week to hit their fitness goals and this will be fine?
All the while going against what has been told to me by my doctor?
This does not make sense! It’s well known that if you are sick with flu type sickness that you should refrain from any strenuous exercise.

I thought Discovery was an organisation that cared for the well being of the people that subscribe to its scheme, when you start taking about Monetary matters as in your previous correspondence it is very apparent that you just care about how you can line your pockets over caring for clients who actually pay you more each month than the couple of hundred rand I am taking about here potentially.
I’m truly disgusted in the many you have handled this matter as well as the Discovery Managing COVID section via the app.
On the above matter, I filled in the questionnaire COVID risk assessment in your app on Saturday 20\06\2021. The first actual correspondence from discovery was on the following Tuesday trying to arrange for me to go for a COVID test. So slow! This is a pandemic and it takes 2 days to speak to your clients regarding having to go for a test. I did a test on the Sunday already.
Next day, my case was being handled a COVID assistant case manager and that they would set up any special requirements for me should I need it, as well as check on me every few days. That never happened.
If you are going to implement something, do it properly and not recreate some false expectation about how brilliant you are when in actual fact, you’re ****.
This is going on Hello Peter so others might want to understand the Discovery ethic model and what it means to their health.
Regards,
Brian Lowry

Dear Mr Lowry
Thank you for your email.
Active Rewards programme
We appreciate you informing us that you are temporarily out of action and we acknowledge your medical condition.
The only time we would review a member’s Active Rewards goal for medical reasons is if the member has a medical condition that prevents them from increasing their heart rate or if they are on medication that prevents their heart rate from increasing.
Based on this, we are unable to consider your Active Rewards goals for the time that you were incapacitated or until you have fully recovered.
This is because we realise that it will happen from time to time that members may miss the odd Active Rewards goal due to uncontrollable circumstances including a brief illness or injury, travel or recovering from intense exercise regimes.
Your Vitality profile shows that there is no financial penalty fee that is carried out on your profile in the event that you do not achieve the weekly or monthly goal points. Thus, we do not put your goal points on hold but automatically the goal points will decrease if these points have not been achieved over a 10 to 12-week period, depending on your fitness level.
With the Apple Watch benefit, you will be charged a penalty fee if you do not meet your goals and that is the reason why we are able to defer the Apple Watch benefit as it has financial implications.
Therefore, although you did not achieve your weekly goals, we did not penalise you in any form and you may resume exercising as soon as you are well enough.
We hope each new day brings you closer to a full and speedy recovery.
