Discovery: The **** of ****s
I wonder what the purpose of having medical aid vs when you need them. I am starting to realise there is zero difference between a person with no medical aid vs person who pays and gets no help.
This year will outline my experience with discovery: 1) Was in sudden pain i my kidney, caused me to fall to the floor, called discovery health, I was told i must get authorisation, they transferred me and the line dropped. I called back and the countless menus and the pain caused me to drive to closest medi clinic. This was not my network hospital, but it was and emergency. Discovery paid for nothing, most of the bills I had to pay cash, they depleted by day to savings and I now have zero, The diagnoses was kidney stone, and the last time i checked that does qualify as an emergency. I contacted discovery social media team, someone was trying to help, then this went dead. I followed up and he said he was on leave, I just gave up. Discovery to this day have not helped with this.
2) One month ago I experienced severe chest pains. I eat well, I gym 4 times a week etc. I decided to go see the doctor who diagnosed me for GERD. I have adjusted my eating, I am on proton pump for a month now and the is no change. I am on the a high dose for the meds they prescribed. I eventually asked the doctor to refer me to a specialist to get a scope done. I had to get transferred around like 5 times just to get a pre authorisation. When I finally speak to someone she says the system wont authorise me and I need to be some care programme, when I am already on meds etc. I am so sick and tired of this **** of a medical aid. I cant deal with this anymore, my next stop is the ombudsman!
