DISCOVERY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF GRIEVING MEMBERS

On 12 June 2018 our GP confirmed my wife's pregnancy. My wife immediately registered such pregnancy on the Vitality Baby App.

On the evening of Wednesday, 27 June 2018, my wife began to miscarry and we rushed to the emergency room. Despite us being on the Priority Series which covers all emergencies, Discovery repudiated such claim because our medical savings had been depleted (its important to note that the maternity aspects of the tests done were settled out of our maternity benefit)

On Friday, 29 June 2018, our GP confirmed that my wife was indeed miscarrying and made an emergency referral to see a gynaecologist on Monday, 2 July 2018. We saw the doctor, who did an internal sonar and confirmed that my wife was miscarrying, he gave her medication to assist with the miscarry and we had to have a follow up consultation on 5 Thursday, July 2018 to confirm that the miscarried foetus had been aborted.

Once again, Discovery has refused to pay for such specialist consultation due to there not being any funds in our savings account. Once again, in terms of their Health Plan Guide of 2018, my wife is entitled to 8 gynaecology visits related to her pregnancy and as such, Discovery should settle this account from the maternity benefit (as they previously did) and not from our savings account.

All disputes have fallen on deaf ears, we have not received any explanation why it is not being paid from our emergency and maternity benefits.

It is clear Discovery is trying to take advantage of a grieving couple by renegading on their own guide and forcing us to pay monies which they should be paying.

Yes. Discovery phoned to say they would investigate and revert in 1-2 business days. We now halfway through business day 3 and still no response. My wife and I are now strongly considering moving all our investments and policies away from you.

Business day 4 of the 1 or 2 business days needed to reply. No emails, no calls, nothing.

Finally received a response. 3 hours after discoverys last reply here and they are only paying for the consultations and not the ultrasound. Can someone please phone me to explain why the ultrasound was not paid for as that is obviously a pregnancy procedure and should be paid by from the maternity benefit?
