Discovery taking advantage

Discovery has imposed a rather large increase again this year. Upon calling Discovery on the 5th of January 2016, I was told that I can downgrade my plan but it will only be effective on the 1st of February. The downgrade was then processed.

My issue is that I have been billed R4026 for January for the Classic Comprehensive plan that I will receive no benefit from as the savings and benefits portions I will receive for the year of 2016 will be based on my new plan of Classic Priority which will cost R1326 less at R2700.

I called Discovery to explain that this overpayment on my part is not fair and that since no claims have been processed for January, this can be backdated and the amount refunded to me for the difference between the 2 premiums. I was told that the new amount was communicated to me last year and that I have to give 30 days notice for any financial changes.

I received no email communicating the new amount and had I received it last year, I would have requested the downgrade for this year then already. The first I saw the new premium was when it was debited from my account.

Based on this, the 30 day notice period should be waived and the amount refunded.
