Discovery refuses admisson after 2x suicide attemp
Today I spent 5hrs in total speaking to everybody I could @ Discovery.Call centre agents refused putting me through to persons in charge.My sister is on KeyCare +. She joined Sept '14 declaring diabetes, heart condition, epilepsy and depression. My sister failed at 2 attempts to commit suicide last night & today.I spoke to principal officer of Discy,Counsil of Medical/a Schemes, Numerous agents. I was finally after literally fighting told to take her to Glynwood Hosp emerg.Should the dr decide she should be admitted,Disc will allow in hospital benefits. My sister even conf Disc I'm her consent. Went to emerg @5pm. She was attended to immed.BUT when I had to pay for admission, to go to Glynwiew, her auth was refused. AND I now no longer was the consent!!! they insisted speaking to husband, no problem, only to tell him sorry can't help your wife!!! this exact same thing happened to me Aug'14 exact same story. So guess what you Disc members out there, if you have a member 2x failed suicide attempts, let them go home and 3rd time lucky. Discvoery just doesn't give a damn. Why are we then paying these high fees & who gives them the right to refuse suicide patients.Can somebody help me

We've confirmed you have been in contact with our team who has provided you with clarity on the terms of acceptance of your sister onto the Scheme. As part of the application process, all applicants are subjected to being underwritten to manage the risk the client may pose to the Scheme. This process is followed as part of the legislative requirement of all Medical Schemes. Based on the application, the Scheme may impose a three month general waiting period and or a 12 month condition specific waiting period on the applicant. Prior to activation of the policy, an acceptance letter is sent to the applicant disclosing the terms of any waiting period and limited access to benefits.
Any treatment related to the waiting period may be declined during this time until the waiting period has been served. Unfortunately, this was the case of your sister and therefore the decision was correctly made. The issue surrounding consent has been addressed and an email has been sent to you with the details.
This decision was made in line with the Scheme rules and policy terms and remains.
