Discovery- Punishing members who’ve had a miscarriage

I fell pregnant in December 2019 and activated my Discovery Maternity benefits. I unfortunately had a miscarriage in January 2020 therefore had to deactivate my maternity benefits. During that pregnancy I had used two consultations and one ultrasound.

I fell pregnant again in March 2020, and was so happy to have rainbow baby. I activated my maternity benefits with Discovery via the app and saw that it showed I had used 2 of 8 consultations and 1 of 2 ultrasounds. I immediately called discovery to sort out the problem. They informed me that because I had gotten pregnant twice during the same 9 month period the system was reading both pregnancies as one. The telephone consultant told me that it was a system error on there side, that could only be corrected once I had maxed out the benefits... so when I had gone to my second ultrasound for this pregnancy, I would submit it to claims exceptions and they would approve it even though the system would read as 3 of 2 ultrasounds. She assured me I wouldn’t have any problems and she sent me an email confirming everything she had told me.

Once I had gone for my second ultrasound for this pregnancy I had submitted everything as instructed and Discovery had rejected my claim because my benefits had “already been maxed” even though I had a ultrasound available. Everything that had been told to me was not done.

After multiple phone calls, emails and back and forth with Discovery, I FINALLY got paid for the ultrasound. It had taken 3 months, countless amount of my time and airtime and so much stress. I had to threaten Discovery before action was taken.

I informed them that I can not go through this same process when it comes to my consultations and that They need to update my maternity basket so that it reflects my currently pregnancy only, and not both pregnancies. I told them by the time I max my consultation benefits, It will be towards the end of my pregnancy and I can not go through the same process and stress while I am 9 months pregnant or when I have a one month old baby.

Discovery has now informed me that they cannot fix the system error, and that I will have to submit the claim to claims exceptions once I max my consultation benefits. The more I tell them that I refuse to sit through this stress again at the end of my pregnancy, the more they are unable to help me. I am incredibly frustrated with this whole situation.

On top of all of that stress, Discovery continues to rob me and my husband and adds more stress. My gynecologist gave me a FREE consultation at 10 weeks on 3 May 2020. When I went for my next consult on 23 June 2020 I paid at the doctors office and submitted the claim to discovery for my refund. Discovery then proceeded to take a one consultation from my maternity basket for 23rd (which they paid me for) and then took one consultation from my maternity basket for my FREE CONSULTATION that I had with my doctor... that their was no charge for.

So I’ve only used 3 of 8 consultations but my maternity basket reads as if I have used 6.

I’m running out of energy and patience and not sure what more to do. Discovery is making this pregnancy very stressful and that’s the last thing I need after a miscarriage.
