Discovery paid less than 50% of the gynaecologist fee for cesarean section operation

My wife recently gave birth by cesarean section. This procedure was pre-approved by Discovery. However upon submitting the claim I was paid less than 50% of the gynaecologist fee. I was told that the doctor is contracted out of Discovery and his rates were different to discovery scheme rates. Discovery scheme rates are ridiculous. I don't understand how these rates are derived. Their scheme rate for a major cesarean section operation is mere R3 747.90. How can cover for such a major surgery be this low?

Their premiums increase every year to cover rising medical costs yet their scheme rates are ridiculously low. I escalated this to Discovery to no avail. Very much frustrated.
