Discovery not willing to assist non SA Doctors

I sent my claim from a Chines Acupuncturist to Discovery over a month ago. After waiting the appropriate time I contact them only to find out that my claim was lost. I resubmitted again, and again waited. When I phoned back regarding the status of the claim I was told that it was not completed as per their policy. I went to the Dr to discuss and she altered the claim and resubmitted. Now when I phoned I was told that my claim will not be processed as it is handwritten not typed. NOWHERE on Discovery's claim site does it list this as a requirement. My Doctor has a practice number and all the ICD10 codes etc were provided. She does not have a computerized service as she works from her residence. She has to phone Discovery to sort this out or get a computer. She does not even speak English well, but they expect her to do this. This makes me wonder if Discovery is discriminating against Doctors who are not South African. Surely if all the information is correct and can be verified with the registered medical practitioner it should be accepted. I am appalled at the level of service - from losing my email to giving me the run-around. Terrible service.

Hello clou123,

Thank you for your comment.

As discussed the claims in question has been processed and I confirmed the details of the claims via email. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the manner in which your query was handled. I am addressing this internally to avoid a reoccurrence going forward. When we process claims we do require certain information to reflect on the claim. This was received on the amended claim you submitted. I confirmed that handwritten claims are accepted from providers.

Thank you for allowing me to assist with your query.

Regards
Jashvir
