Discovery not paying claims regardless of R1000's of rands deducted from clients
On 18 January, I was admitted in Vincent Palloti Hospital, after 4-5 of struggle with Discovery to get me admitted. This hospital is listed as their network hospital and according to my plan, they cover 100% of costs covered in their network hospitals. I was very sick, and I was "allocated" a doctor who will attend to me during my stay in hospital. I did not choose this doctor for myself, he was allocated to me and this, according to me, would have been done with my type of plan in mind. This doctor didn't do anything except to come for 5 minutes, ask how I feel and go. He discharged me while I was still in the most ********** pain and never even bother to refer me to someone who can help me with the same pain I walked in hospital crying about. A few weeks later, I receive a text and an e-mail stating that I owe that doctor R1316.00 of money that was not paid by Discovery. In my understanding, Discovery has to pay 100% of the costs if I'm in a network hospital. The fact that I was allocated a doctor that charges more than what they pay shouldn't be my problem as I didn't elect that doctor. He was given to me and I wouldn't have asked how he charges, I take it that patients are allocated doctors according to their plan types. Now I'm being harrassed and even threatened with legal action if I don't settle this account. I'm paying Discovery a lot of money to still be expected to pay extras of thousands of rands on the side. I don't know why this doctor's claim was not paid but I did what was right according to Discovery and went to their network hospital. I need this burden to be taken away from me as soon as possible.
