DISCOVERY MSA DEBT - INCORRECT
I've been with Discovery from August 2014 (with company) up until January 2015. I've been on the Essential Priority plan. They pro-rata my MSA savings (understandable) - but end of December 2014 they said I had R0.00 balance which I don't believe and I OWE THEM R2000!!! I therefore requested a claims transaction history which is dated from the time I started up until it was terminated (Jan 2015) and the balance I owed was R11.46. I therefore queried the R2000 which I still can't understand how that was calculated.

Please assist me as I spoke to different people and this is not adding up!!

I've also paid R400 in order not to be handed over, but I want my transactions checked and verified before making any other payments on this account!!
Thank you for your comment.
Please allow me to provide you with some context as to how we calculate the Medical Saving s Account (MSA).
The full amount is available to you at the beginning of the year, like a loan. You pay towards it as part of your monthly contribution to the medical scheme. By the end of the year, you will have paid the full amount into your MSA. If you leave the scheme or change your plan to a plan with no Medical Savings Account and have spent more than the amount you've paid, you may owe the Scheme an amount and will need to pay it back.
When you joined us on 2014/08/01 your MSA was prorated to provide you with your MSA portion equivalent to 5 months (August to December). On 1 January 2015 you were allocated a year's worth of MSA (January to December).
When you withdrew from the Scheme at the end of January, you had spent R2050.38 more than what you would contribute to the Scheme in terms of your premiums for the remained of 2015.
I have sent you a detailed email in this regard. You are welcome to contact me directly should you have any further queries in this regard.
Kind regards
Danita
