Discovery Medical is such a ******* - they suck on another level
My son (23 years old) was admitted to hospital as a medical emergency on 24 June 2020 by ambulance. My medical plan specifies which facilities to use - so the admission was done in line with their policy, on 24 June @ around 17h00. He was treated in casualty and stabilized - eventually around 6 hours in casualty he was transferred to Glynnwood @ 03h00 on the morning of 25 June 2020 into the ICU. The official diagnosis was a Dural Venous Sinus Thrombosis with a cerebral haemorrhage. The whole experience was traumatic to say the least. By the grace of God he was discharged on 1 July 2020. Discovery Medical Aid has been a nightmare - with everyone passing the buck, I have tried without success to resolve the paperwork - every time I phone Discovery they clam they are waiting for the hospital to update their system. The Life Group has has computer issues and they are another mission in itself as they don't bother to answer the phone, undertake to get back to you and don't bother. The Discovery call centre staff claim they will escalate my case it has been escalated 3 times and still not resolved. The call centre agent undertakes to get back to me which all three did x2 only to tell me they are not able to get through to the Glynwood Life Hospital. In the meantime Discovery has used all my medical savings to pay for the in hospital services which should NOT be paid from my medical savings. No one at the Life hospitals of Discovery can link the admission to Casualty and subsequently transfer via ambulance which the hospital claims was authorised by Discovery. I have service providers hounding me telephonically and with threatening emails for payment. Discovery does not get back to me despite their supposed escalation process. I am continuously told they are waiting for the hospital to update their records. My son needs to take blood thinners and epilepsy medication for 6 months which cost me close on R5000 when he was discharged because the hospital dispensary was closed. I app**** for chronic benefits and in true Discovery style they have limited their payment to R300 per month on the one set of medication and have set a limit on the number of pills which is totally ridiculous in my opinion. I am expected to be happy to get R300 monthly for the chronic medication but I must pay the difference of over R4000 per month for the next six months. Furthermore they have not bothered to revert of the other chronic medication application since 10 July because they need confirmation of the discharge diagnosis??? I need to get the new month's medication by Wednesday. I have no medical savings left because due to Discovery's incompetence they have quite happily paid the service providers from my medical saving when this service providers should have been paid from my Hospital benefits. Discovery knows there is a problem but has shown NO INTEREST in returning my monies to my savings account while they sort out their mess. Why is the medication my son needs for the next 6 months not covered in full by Discovery?? Discovery is such a ******* they are happy to post record profits year in year out, every year they increase my monthly contribution by much more than the annual CPI and decrease the benefits they offer. I am so disappointed in Discovery and the totally unacceptable *********** manner in which they are dealing with this claim. Discovery has absolutely no compassion and is only interested in making money, and has shown very little empathy in this whole debacle.
