Discovery medical aid seeking to enrich from ********* collection of apparent debt

I would like to establish suitable recourse. I currently am a member of the discovery medical aid scheme, contributing as a main main member with two dependants.

There also is an employer contribution as part of my employment package.

I today (06/10/2020) accepted a call from an apparent legal firm (SSDA) informing me, rather instructing me to pay over a total amount of R 459.96 to them for an account that had/has been handed over by DISCOVERY MEDICAL AID. As of June 2020, the principle debt amount is set to be an apparent R190 odd.

I am absolutely appalled by this sudden ambush. I have read through my emails with from/discovery and I have not been able to pick up any communication where it was brought to my attention that I owe them and that the amount owing was soon to be handed over.

Furthermore, it was insisted upon me that I am responsible for the accrual of interest and administrative charges with the said collector because "I chose not to answer their phone calls'', which begs the question - are critical issues such as these not communicated in writing ?

I would like to engage with discovery and be made to understand the semantics of their administration ?

I find such acts to equate to theft and bullying as I have now been presented with a bill of more than double the amount initially said to be owing all because they did not uphold good ethics and communicate with in writing.

Furthermore I am now being harassed by collection agents, their collection agents, who can not furnish me with details of the apparent debt.

I have tried to contact discovery a number of times today but to no avail. Calls are cut and no one calls back.

I find this to be extremely disappointing behavior and conduct, especially since I am still an actively contributing member of the scheme!
