Discovery medical aid is exploitative

It is deplorable that Discovery medical aid refuses to pay a claim for an emergency visit. Your policy says ‘an emergency medical condition is a sudden and unexpected onset of a health condition that requires immediate medical treatment. Failure to provide medical treatment would result in serious impairment to bodily functions functions or serious...’ For us that does not know please explain what serious is and who determines that it is serious and at what point is it serious. When someone is up at night screaming from abdominal pains and feeling cold when it is 27/28 degrees outside after ingesting food that we do not know whether it is poisoned or not, at what point should we as paying clients decide that this is serious or not. Do we wait out the pain until the next morning to see whether the person survives or not or rush to the hospital? The word ‘would’ in itself is speculative. Who has the right to speculate? Clearly not paying clients. It is nonsensical that emergencies are determined after the fact. Shame on you. I hope there is something better out there than this.
