Discovery medical aid ****!!!

We pay close to R6000 each month with an added R+-R500 gap cover. All you get is a savings. What ticks me further is that no hospital admits you even if you are critical. So if they dont admit you the medical aid does not pay. (TAKE THIS TO HEART THAT NO TEAR WITHIN THIS GROUP ACTUALLY CATERS TO THE WORKING CLASS) if you do not have the full premium package expect to cough up even more.

My daughter had a medical procdure done yesterday. The medical aid then takes that amount out of your savings. No free consultations for the year, nothing. And you pay R6500 for this.

We went ahead and was booked at the day hospital. (How convenient as you are not admitted) See the trick here. While she is in surgery (SURGEY!!!!) the lady at the front desk suprises me by asking if we know of any co Payments.

SO how discovery does this is they do the quote with the codes at the bottom. Then they have codes that is covered or not. So in our case there was 4 codes not covered but they said we should not be liable. However at the top, apart from this tabe showing the amounts. There is a paragraph. If your kid is younger than 8 you need a co payment of R1490.

Imagine that after just coughing up R6500 for a medical aid.

Today, she is all better, yesterdays stress of co payments and surgeries are in the past.

BAM!!!! in true fashion of Discovery medical aid, We get a bill of R7000 for the aenesthesiast.

Before anyone says you get other benefits i would trully ask them to come and point them out.

1. DOCTORS VISITS AND MEDICINE come out of your savings. DONT FORGET THAT. IF YOU USE UP THE SAVINGS THEN SURPRISE SURPRISE. YOU ARE LIABLE AGAIN. 2. SPECIALISTS LIKE DENTAL OR ANYTHING ELSE. You think you would get atleast some cover like free dental for one checkup or something in that line or major event or so on. NOOOO...!!!! you are wrong.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS MEDICAL AID.

ALSO NOTE, when Practitioners hear you have medical aid you get charged like 200-300% the actual rate. So lets do the exercise.

You visit the doctor 6 times a year at R600 a visit. Medicine works out lets say R5k for the year. That is R9-R10k a year.

This dentist would have been R15k with a local aneasthesiest present at the dentist offices. Medical aid did not cover it then as well. So we went to the hospital and sent it all in for pre authorisation.

So the 10k for doctors visits, and the R15k proceadure is only 25K. Leaving you with 53k left. Now i know what Discovery would say, what if you end up in Hospital. Id rather pay a cheaper Hospital plan where i can visit just for a stomach ache and know it is covered than be with Discovery hiding behind their false pretense.

Its called a medical aid yet there is no aid. You just have to pay, pay, pay.
