Discovery leaves you to die in medical emergencies - if not on the street, then through the emergency hospital bills that follow

For ordinary South Africans medical aid cover is a luxury. For those who can sc**** together the thousands needed every month, it is done to cover us in case of a medical emergency- in or out of the hospital. Unfortunately, discovery are just not available when you need them most. I hade such a medical emergency a week ago and was taken by Netcare to Milpark. I spent five hours in casualty on a drip, undergoing test and x-rays. I was not admitted - and that was my mistake! Can you believe wanting to go home rather being admitted to hospital will cost you more? The long and short of the story is that the bills with thousands have been flying in. So you are in casualty but are not covered. That’s when you need it most. I am disappointed and as a journalist intend to take this further. I will also be switching my entire family (4 of us pay a combined R10k a month) from Discovery to a medical aid that has more compassion. Recommendations most welcome.
